During the sunny days of March and April, there will be utility location and soil sampling work on Highway 7 West to prepare for rapidway construction.
Where is this work taking place?
In various locations along Highway 7 West, between Highway 400 and Costa Road.
When will it start?
- Dates: March 9 to the end of April, 2012.
- Hours of work: 7am to 5pm.
What is being done?
Crews will take measurements and photographs, and visually inspect the roadway and surrounding area.
What does the work involve?
- Locations of underground utilities will be marked with paint and flags.
- A truck-mounted drill rig will be used to bore small holes to extract soil samples along the roadway and boulevard.
What impact will there be?
- Testing equipment will be present on Highway 7 West.
- Traffic lanes, sidewalks and bus stops will remain open.
Where and when will the rapidways be built?
Rapidway construction will happen in two phases over several years:
- Highway 7 West between Highway 400 and Bowes Road from 2012 to 2015, to coincide with the completion of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension.
- The balance of Highway 7 West between Helen Street and Yonge Street, from 2016 to 2020.
