Pre-construction activity on Highway 7 West

March 08, 2012

During the sunny days of March and April, there will be utility location and soil sampling work on Highway 7 West to prepare for rapidway construction.

Where is this work taking place?

In various locations along Highway 7 West, between Highway 400 and Costa Road.

When will it start?

  • Dates: March 9 to the end of April, 2012.
  • Hours of work: 7am to 5pm.

What is being done?

Crews will take measurements and photographs, and visually inspect the roadway and surrounding area.

What does the work involve?

  • Locations of underground utilities will be marked with paint and flags.
  • A truck-mounted drill rig will be used to bore small holes to extract soil samples along the roadway and boulevard.

What impact will there be?

  • Testing equipment will be present on Highway 7 West.
  • Traffic lanes, sidewalks and bus stops will remain open.

Where and when will the rapidways be built?

Rapidway construction will happen in two phases over several years:

  • Highway 7 West between Highway 400 and Bowes Road from 2012 to 2015, to coincide with the completion of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension.
  • The balance of Highway 7 West between Helen Street and Yonge Street, from 2016 to 2020.
