Bridge survey work begins on Highway 7 West

June 03, 2011

Our crews will be surveying the Highway 7 West bridges that travel over Highway 400 and the CN rail tracks.

Why is this work taking place?

The bridge surveys are part of the vivaNext preliminary design and engineering of the Highway 7 West rapidway.

When will it take place?

  • The CN bridge surveying is scheduled for the week of June 6, and the Highway 400 bridge is scheduled for the week of June 20*
  • The surveying on each bridge will take about two weeks to complete

What type of work is being done?

  • Detailed visual inspections of all accessible areas of the bridge
  • Extraction and testing of small samples from the concrete deck

The bridge surveys will help determine the integrity of the foundations and main bridge structures, and identify any restoration work that might need to be done

What impact will there be?

  • Workers will be on-site, harnessed to the bridge as they complete their inspection and collect samples
  • Periodic lane closures will be required during off-peak hours (9:30am – 3:30pm on weekdays)
  • Potential sidewalk closures – signs will direct pedestrians as needed
