Millway Avenue & Hwy 7 West intersection reopening >> traffic signal in the VMC area being activated

October 25, 2017

Crews will be activating the traffic signals on Highway 7 West at the recently paved intersection at Millway Avenue on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Millway Ave. was closed in 2011 as part of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre [VMC] redevelopment. With new traffic signals being activated, this intersection can now reopen. Please use extra caution when driving through this area. Although this is not a new intersection, drivers have not had to stop here for several years. Please see below for further details.

work dates*: Tuesday, Oct. 31
work hours*: 9:00am to 12:00pm [noon]

what you need to know:

  • Crews will be activating the traffic signals at Millway and Highway 7 beginning at approximately 9:00am until 12:00pm noon on Tuesday, Oct 31.
  • During signal activation, eastbound and westbound traffic on Hwy 7 West [in the area] will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • Signals will be on flash and traffic will be controlled by paid-duty police officers during the activation. Traffic control staff will be onsite, as required.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

new dedicated left-turn signal and U-turns:

  • This intersection will have dedicated left-turn traffic signals.
  • Drivers will be able to turn left only when the left-turn arrow is illuminated. Left turns are therefore not permitted when through traffic proceeds.
  • Motorists will be able to make U-turns at this and other signalized intersections along the Highway 7 West rapidway when the left-turn signal is illuminated. Watch for signs that state “U-turn permitted”.

new two-stage pedestrian crossing:

  • Pedestrians will be able to cross Highway 7 West at Millway in two stages if unable to get to the other side during the first signal.
  • New signals with a countdown will be installed. The countdown will let pedestrians know how many seconds they have left to safely cross the street.
  • There will also be a waiting area in the middle of the crosswalk, where pedestrians can push the “walk” button and wait for the next light before crossing the second half of the street, if more time is needed to cross.
