overnight traffic shift and storm sewer installations on Centre Street

September 5, 2017

Hello,

Tonight, in order to accommodate road widening and storm sewer work on the south side of Centre Street, there will be a traffic shift tonight from Vaughan Boulevard/Carl Tennen Street to Dufferin Street. In addition, starting tomorrow, crews will be installing storm sewers on the south side of Centre Street between New Westminster Drive and Dufferin St. Please see below for further details.

traffic shift:

work dates*: Tuesday, Sept. 5 [overnight]
work hours*: 8pm–6am

  • IIn preparation for future road widening, crews will be shifting both eastbound and westbound lanes on Centre toward the north side of the street, from Vaughan Blvd/Carl Tennen St. to Dufferin.
  • This lane shift will be in place for several months.
  • At 8pm tonight, Centre will be reduced to one lane in each direction both eastbound and westbound in order for crews to remove old traffic lines and paint new ones.
  • Next, the newly painted lanes will reopen and the remaining lanes will be closed to obliterate old lanes and paint new ones.
  • Early Wednesday morning, lanes will reopen shifted to the north with two lanes eastbound and two lanes westbound.

storm sewer installations on Centre Street:

work dates*: Wednesday, Sept. 6 for approximately one month
work hours*: 7am–5pm

  • To accommodate storm sewer installations, there may be curb lane closures on Centre between New Westminster and Dufferin.

general impacts:

  • Sidewalks and bus stops will remain open wherever possible. If a sidewalk or bus stop is temporarily closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk or bus stop.
  • Due to the nature of this work, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

crews dedicated to minimize disruption where possible:

  • Limit the reversing of vehicles with back-up safety beeper.
  • Aim headlights away from buildings and homes.
  • Reduce the banging noise from dump truck tailgates.
  • Set up portable lights in a way that limits upcasting onto buildings.
  • Ensure equipment is well maintained and running well.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We are committed to providing advance notice whenever possible. Check twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.

We understand that overnight work is disruptive to those who live and work in the area, and have taken steps to reduce the impacts where possible. While we aim to balance the needs of commuters, businesses, area residents, the community at large and the project, night work is sometimes unavoidable. Read more about how we balance the needs of the corridor in our recent blog working day and night. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
