September 22, 2019

The transformation of the Bathurst & Centre area is progressing well with a significant project milestone, as we open a new vivastation and section of rapidway! Beginning today, riders will be able to board Viva at the new Bathurst & Highway 7 Station – located on the Highway 7-Bathurst Connecting Road – and ride the rapidway to Richmond Hill Centre Terminal. Please see below for further details.

what you need to know:

  • The segment opening today includes:
    • 2.6‐kilometre segment of red partial rapidway heading east along Highway 7 to Richmond Hill Centre Terminal.
    • Bathurst & Highway 7 Station, located on the Highway 7‐Bathurst Connecting Road at Bathurst Street.
    • Shared‐use path for pedestrians and cyclists on both sides of Highway 7, the Highway 7‐Bathurst Connecting Road and the Highway 7‐Yonge Connecting Road.
  • It is important for drivers to be aware of the changes to the street as red asphalt indicates a bus only lane.
  • Emergency vehicles are permitted to access the rapidway should they need it. They will have their flashing lights on for safety.
  • The remaining 10 km of the project is progressing well, and is expected to open for service by the end of this year.
  • This project in its entirety adds 12.6 km to the Highway 7 rapidway that opened in 2017 in the City of Vaughan, linking two significant employment, recreation and residential centres (Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and Richmond Hill/Langstaff Urban Growth Centre) and connecting to subway lines, train routes, bus routes and park and ride lots.
  • The Highway 7 West and Bathurst & Centre project extends in the west from Bruce Street to Edgeley Boulevard, and from Centre Street to Yonge Street along the existing Viva route along Centre Street and Bathurst Street ‐ where the population, recreation and employment opportunities continue to increase.

Come take a ride on the new section of rapidway or check out the new shared-used path! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, and take a look at the Frequently Asked Questions.
