Map: Vivastation example

work dates*: Thursday, Sept. 21 and over the next several months
work hours*: 7am–5pm

what you need to know:

  • Now that the traffic shift is in place and the temporary signals are activated at the Bathurst and New Westminster Dr./Atkinson Ave. intersection, excavation will begin for the north half of the vivastation platform.
  • The “Atkinson Avenue” station, located on Bathurst, will have the staggered platform style, which means one half of the station will be north of the intersection and the other will be south.
  • Due to the nature of this work, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Sidewalks and bus stops will remain open wherever possible. If a sidewalk or bus stop is temporarily closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk or bus stop.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

steps in building a vivastation:

  • Excavate the area for the platforms.
  • Construct the electrical duct bank [a duct bank is structure that gathers together and encases utility cables].
  • Pour foundation and grade beams.
  • Install canopy components.
  • Install the barrier wall and platform concrete.
  • Complete enclosure and tile.
  • Installation of wayfinding and ITS “Intelligent Transportation Systems” to improve the efficiency of travel equipment.
  • Constructing a vivastation requires a significant amount of coordination and has many components. Check out this blog: building for the future for more information. It’s taken years of design, planning and preparation to get to the point of station construction and we’re excited to share it with you.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We are committed to providing advance notice whenever possible. Check twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.
