project milestone >> vivastation platform construction begins on the Bathurst connector road

August 31, 2017

Over the next few months, an exciting project milestone is beginning in the Bathurst & Centre area: construction for the first vivastation platform. The “Hwy 7-Bathurst” station, located on the Bathurst connector road, will have the mirror-image platform style, which means the station platforms will be facing each other. Please see below for further details.

Map: Bathurst Street work area

work dates*: Friday, Sept. 1 and over the next few months
work hours*:7am–5pm

what you need to know:

  • In order to excavate and construct the station platforms, crews will be working in the middle of the road, where the future rapidway will be. Traffic lanes in both directions have been shifted to accommodate this activity.
  • There may be additional lane closures around the work area.
  • Due to the nature of this work, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

building a vivastation:

  • Excavate the area for the platforms.
  • Construct the electrical duct bank [a duct bank is structure that gathers together and encases utility cables].
  • Pour foundation and grade beams.
  • Install canopy components.
  • Install the barrier wall and platform concrete.
  • Complete enclosure and tile.
  • Installation of wayfinding and ITS “Intelligent Transportation Systems” to improve the efficiency of travel equipment.

Constructing a vivastation requires a significant amount of coordination and has many components. Check out this blog: building for the future for more information. It’s taken years of design, planning and preparation to get to the point of station construction and we’re excited to share it with you.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We are committed to providing advance notice whenever possible. Check twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.

We understand that construction can be disruptive and we thank you in advance for your patience during this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
