traffic signal activation:

work dates*: Tuesday, August 15
work hours*: 9am–12pm

  • Tomorrow, the temporary traffic signals at the Centre and Concord/Wade Gate intersection will be activated in the morning. These temporary signals will be in place throughout construction.
  • The traffic lights will be out of service intermittently. Expect to see the lights out or flashing.
  • Once activated, crews will return at a later date to remove the old signal poles and equipment.
  • This work may require short-term lane closures around each work area as crews make their way around the intersection.
  • Paid duty police officers will be onsite for the duration of the work to control traffic.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
  • While there will be no changes to the intersection movements and operations at this time, there will be changes coming in the future. Read more and watch a video about what to expect when the rapidway is complete here: Navigating the rapidways.

Traffic signals change quite a bit with our construction projects, and not just from green to yellow to red. To read more about it, check out our blog: changing lights.

temporary sidewalk installation:

Crews will also be constructing a new temporary sidewalk on the west side of Bathurst Street between North Park Road and just north of Beverly Glen Boulevard. The sidewalk is expected to be open shortly, and will create more pedestrian friendly boulevards on Bathurst.

This sidewalk is being constructed ahead of an anticipated sidewalk closure on the east side of Bathurst between Atkinson and Centre in order to accommodate storm sewer installations. More details of this work will be announced at a later date.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We are committed to providing advance notice whenever possible. Check twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.

We understand that construction can be disruptive and we thank you in advance for your patience during this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
