This week, crews are continuing the installation of new 26-metre hydro poles along the west side of Bathurst Street, between New Westminster Drive and Centre Street. Please see below for further details.

work dates*: Tuesday, March 28 to Thursday, March 30
work hours*: 9am–4pm

what you need to know:

  • Beginning Tuesday, the bus stop on the south side of New Westminster Dr. at Bathurst will be temporarily shifted west to accommodate underground drilling work. Please watch for directional signs.
  • On Wednesday, crews will install new hydro poles from south of North Park to north of Centre St.
  • Northbound and southbound Bathurst St. will be reduced to one lane in each direction and traffic will be shifted into easterly lanes away from the work area.
  • Driveways may be temporarily disrupted.
  • As each new pole is hoisted up and over existing wires and placed on its foundation, traffic on Bathurst will be stopped in all directions for up to 10-15 minutes at a time.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be on site to direct traffic as required.
  • Bus stops and sidewalks will remain open wherever possible. If a bus stop or sidewalk is closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop or sidewalk.
  • Over the next two to three weeks, crews will be working on framing the poles and stringing the lines in this area. To accommodate this work, short-term curb lane closures may be required.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
  • Due to the nature of this work, there will be construction-related noise from equipment and trucks.
  • Check out this video [of the vivaNext project on Yonge Street] for a look at how it’s done.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We are committed to providing advance notice whenever possible.

We understand that construction can be disruptive and we thank you in advance for your patience during this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
