what you need to know

  • To accommodate this work, northbound and southbound Bathurst St. will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Wednesday.
  • In addition, traffic on Bathurst will be shifted into easterly lanes away from the work area.
  • As each new pole is hoisted up and over existing wires and placed on its foundation, traffic will be stopped in all directions for up to 10-15 minutes at a time.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be on site to direct traffic as required.
  • Sidewalks will be closed around the work areas. Directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.
  • The bus stop on the corner of Bathurst and Westmount Blvd. will be temporarily closed. Directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • Then, on Thursday, northbound Bathurst will be reduced to one lane around the work areas in order to accommodate support pole installation, as required.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
  • Due to the nature of this work, there will be construction-related noise from equipment and trucks.
  • Installation of the new hydro poles will continue over the next few months. We will continue to communicate details as work progresses.
  • Check out this video [of the vivaNext project on Yonge Street in Newmarket] for a look at how it’s done.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We are committed to providing advance notice whenever possible.
