Starting next Monday, crews will begin replacing an existing water main along Centre Street from New Westminster Drive to Dufferin Street. The existing water main is approaching the end of its lifespan and will be upgraded with new infrastructure as part of the vivaNext rapidway project in the Bathurst & Centre area. Please see below for further details.

description of the work:
- The new water main will be installed along Centre from New Westminster to Dufferin using open-cut trenches as well as directional drilling. The work will progress in segments for the duration of the work.
- Work will occur on the north and south sides of the road and will generally move westward; however, crews will be required at times to move back and forth throughout the corridor to complete different tasks associated with the overall work.
- Once installations are complete, crews will connect water services to the new water main and conduct residual water testing.
- Trenches will be filled and the road and boulevard will be restored.
what you need to know:
- Curb lane closures will be required around work areas when crews are excavating, installing pipe, backfilling and other related activities.
- Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite, as required.
- Sidewalks will remain open wherever possible. If a sidewalk is closed, directional signage will be onsite to help guide pedestrians.
- Bus stops may be temporarily relocated as work progresses. Directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open stop.
- Access will be maintained to properties and businesses.
- Due to the nature of this work, there will be construction-related noise, dust and vibration from equipment and trucks.
- There may be noise prior to 7am as crews assemble and arrange the equipment they require.
- Planned short-term water service interruptions will occur closer to the end of the work and advance notice will be given to impacted businesses and residences.
- While the majority of the construction work will take place on weekdays from 7am–7pm, at times, it may be necessary to complete work overnight and/or on weekends in order to balance the needs of the community and the project. Advance notice will be provided via our construction bulletins or localized to those near a specific work area.
