water main pipe installation

work dates*: Wednesday, Sept. 7
work hours*: 6am–6pm

what you need to know:

  • Crews will be installing water main pipe on Bathurst from Centre St. to just south of Beverley Glen Blvd.
  • To install the water main pipe underground, crews will feed the pipe into an entry pit near Beverley Glen Blvd. and then machinery will be used to pull the pipe through the hollowed area to an exit pit near Centre St.
  • Wherever possible, bus stops will remain open. If a bus stop is temporarily closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be construction-related noise and vibration around the work area from the work activity, equipment and trucks.
  • There may also be some noise prior to 6am as crews assemble and arrange the equipment they require.
  • In preparation for upcoming water main excavation and drilling at the Centre St. and Bathurst St. intersection, crews have removed the south-west median.
  • To accommodate future work in this area, the crosswalk on the south side of Centre, that crosses Bathurst, will be closed and pedestrians will be diverted to cross to the east side of Bathurst at the crosswalk south of the intersection [see map]. Directional signs will be onsite to help guide pedestrians. For pedestrians needing to access the north side of Centre, there is a signalized crossing at Disera Dr.

  • Transit will continue service during this activity. Wherever possible, bus stops will remain open. If a bus stop is temporarily closed, signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.

  • There may be some noise prior to 7am as crews assemble and arrange the equipment they require.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We’ll provide advance notice whenever possible.

Students are back to school this week! We would like to remind motorists to drive with extra caution and keep an eye out for pedestrians, particularly in school areas and community safe zones. Construction continues throughout the area, so please drive slowly through work areas with everyone’s safety in mind.
