grading work along Centre Street

September 2, 2016

Starting next week, crews will be grading the ditches on the north side of Centre Street between Vaughan Boulevard to just west of Concord Road to prepare for utility work on Centre Street. Please see below for further details:

Map: Centre Street work area

work dates*: Tuesday, September 6 to Friday, October 7
work hours*: 7am–5pm, weekdays

what you need to know:

  • The westbound curb lane between Vaughan Blvd. to west of Concord Rd. will be closed as crews work in the area, generally in a westbound direction.
  • First, crews will remove sidewalks and the culverts that cross under some of the driveways throughout the area.
  • Next, crews will remove soil and then backfill the ditches to bring them to the grade required for future gas main installation.
  • Work will be ongoing throughout this area, however, it is expected that crews will be working on one driveway at a time. Access will be maintained to the driveways that are not being worked on.
  • Bus stops will remain open. If a bus stop is temporarily closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • The sidewalk on the north side of Centre will be closed in the work area. Pedestrians may cross at the signalized intersections at Vaughan Blvd. or Concord Rd. in order to use the sidewalk on the south side of Centre. Directional signs will be onsite to help guide pedestrians.
  • One of the pedestrian paths that accesses Loudon Cres. will be maintained during this work.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be construction-related noise and vibration around the work area from the work activity, equipment and trucks.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We’ll provide advance notice whenever possible.
