water main valve chamber installation on Bathurst Street

August 29, 2016

Over the next several weeks, crews will be installing new water main valve chambers along Bathurst Street as water main replacement work progresses. Starting tomorrow, crews will begin installing the first two water main chambers. Please see below for further details:

work dates*: Tuesday, Aug. 30 to Wednesday, Sept. 7
work hours*: 7am–7pm, lane closures 9:30am–3:30pm

  • Crews will be installing the first two water main valve chambers, which will connect to the water main pipe that has already been installed, on Bathurst Street north of Westmount Boulevard and north of Flamingo Rd.
  • In order to accommodate the heavy machinery required for this work activity, northbound Bathurst will be reduced to one lane, from just north of Atkinson Ave. to just north of the Highway 407 ETR eastbound ramp, during off-peak travel times.
  • The installation of the water main valve chambers will take approximately one week, as crews excavate the chamber location, use cranes to place the chamber in the excavated area, connect it to the new water main pipe and then backfill the area.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be construction-related noise, dust and vibration from equipment and trucks.
  • Directional signs and flag persons will be on site to direct traffic, as needed.
  • There may be some noise prior to 7am as crews assemble and arrange the equipment they require.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We’ll provide advance notice whenever possible.

Thank you for your patience as we transform Bathurst & Centre. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
