water main pipe installation on Bathurst Street

July 19, 2016

Now that the first segment of drilling has been completed for the Bathurst Street water main, it’s time to install the new pipe underground. Tomorrow, crews will be installing pipe on Bathurst St. between Atkinson Ave. and Westmount Blvd. Please see below for further details.

work dates*: Wednesday, July 20 to Friday, July 23
work hours*: 6am–6pm

what you need to know:

  • Crews will be installing water main pipe on Bathurst from just south of Atkinson Ave. to just south of Westmount Blvd.
  • To install the water main pipe underground, crews will feed the pipe into an entry pit near Atkinson Ave. and then machinery will be used to pull the pipe through the hollowed area to an exit pit near Westmount Blvd.
  • To accommodate the equipment needed for this operation, northbound Bathurst will be reduced to one lane around the work area for approximately 12 hours.
  • The crosswalks at Beverley Glen Blvd. will be closed during pipe installation and directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest crossing.
  • Wherever possible, bus stops will remain open. If a bus stop is temporarily closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be construction-related noise and vibration around the work area from the work activity, equipment and trucks.
  • There may also be some noise prior to 6am as crews assemble and arrange the equipment they require.
  • Portable Variable Message Signs [PVMS] will provide real-time travel information in the area. For more details on PVMS signs, check out our recent blog.
  • After the water main pipe is installed in this segment, the excavated utility pits will be filled and paved on Thursday. Northbound lanes around this work area are expected to re-open on Friday, July 23.
  • The next location of the drilling operation for the Bathurst Street water main replacement will be from just south of Westmount to just north of Flamingo.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We’ll provide advance notice whenever possible.
