weekend line painting and geotechnical testing on Bathurst

June 8, 2016

To prepare for upcoming water main work on Bathurst Street, crews will be line painting overnight this weekend to shift traffic away from the work area. Also on Bathurst, geotechnical testing will take place starting this week. Please see below for further details:

geotechnical testing

work dates*: Thursday, June 9 to Wednesday, June 15
work hours: 7am–7pm

  • Geotechnical testing continues this week in and around the Bathurst St. connector ramp that connects Bathurst to Highway 7.
  • Crews will use a truck-mounted drill rig to extract samples from the road. Each hole will be filled before moving to the next spot.
  • Temporary, rolling lane closures will be needed for north and southbound traffic on Bathurst, as well as the east and westbound traffic on the connector.
  • Directional signs will be posted to help guide traffic.
  • Due to the nature of this work, there may be occasional noise and vibrations around the work area.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

weekend line painting and shifting traffic lanes

work dates*: Sunday, June 12 to Monday, June 13
work hours: 8pm Sunday night–7am Monday morning

  • Now that crews have removed and paved the medians along Bathurst, they will be painting new traffic lines overnight this weekend. These new lines will shift traffic lanes to the west side of Bathurst St. in order to maximize the number of lanes available during the water main work along the east side of Bathurst.
  • Along Bathurst, crews will remove and then re-paint traffic lines from just north of the Bathurst connector ramp to just south of Centre Street.
  • One northbound and one southbound lane closure will be required through the work area.
  • There will be construction-related noise from equipment and trucks, including grinding of pavement, as the existing traffic lines are removed.
  • Directional signs and paid-duty police officers will be on site to direct traffic, as needed.
  • Starting next week, crews will also begin placing water main pipes and supplies along the east side of Bathurst. They will be welding the pipes together to prepare them for installation. To learn more about underground infrastructure work, read our blog.

new signs on Bathurst and Centre Streets

You may have noticed the large digital signs that were recently put up in the Bathurst & Centre area. These signs use Bluetooth technology to calculate and display the typical travel time [“NORM”] and the current travel time ["NOW"].

TravelTime

Above is a sample of a digital sign from our Highway 7 East project. Similar signs are now in place on the corridor.

Now that construction is underway on Bathurst & Centre, reduced speed limit signs (black and white) will be posted, reducing these streets from 60 km/h to 50 km/h. High travel speeds can be hazardous for the public and construction crews as they travel throughout the area. The speed limit reduction will help enforce and maintain a safer vivaNext rapidway project in the Bathurst & Centre area.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We are committed to providing advance notice whenever possible.

Thank you for your patience as we transform Bathurst & Centre. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
