Davis Drive year in review

Rapid transit is now a reality on Davis Drive! Viva yellow is now running along the rapidway, picking up and dropping off passengers at Longford, Main and Southlake, before continuing in mixed traffic to make stops at Huron Heights, Leslie and the Highway 404 park and ride facility.

The introduction of the rapidway on Davis has transformed the way people get around. Sidewalks, dedicated left-turn signals, and upgraded infrastructure will serve the needs of pedestrians, transit riders, businesses and drivers for generations to come.

To get here, you had to live through one of the busiest construction seasons on Davis, bringing with it an impressive array of accomplishments, with a bit of fun thrown in, too.

here’s a quick recap of some of the changes on Davis Drive in 2015:

  • Final paving of Davis Drive, including the red rapidway. Davis is now open to two lanes of traffic in each direction, and the rapidway is in service.
  • All intersections from Yonge Street to Huron Heights Drive/Alexander Road have been activated and are in their final configuration. Dedicated left-turn lanes are easing the flow of traffic, and allowing for U-turns to get you to your mid-block destinations.
  • The #mydavisdrive selfie contest awarded five $100 weekly prizes, and three grand prize Davis shopping sprees valued at $500, $750, and $1,000, all in support of Davis Drive businesses!
  • Installation of new rail arms at the Tannery Mall GO train crossing.
  • Viva yellow arrived on Davis Drive on November 29, 2015!

thank you

The Davis Drive rapidway has been years in the making. Through all the planning, design and construction, there’s something special about knowing that you’ve contributed to the future growth and prosperity of entire neighbourhoods, towns and regions by connecting people to the places they work, shop and play.

We would like to sincerely thank you, the businesses and residents that have supported the project from the outset, and endured the disruptions that come with long term construction. Your patience, understanding and feedback have been invaluable. There’s just a little bit left to do before we can call it done, but together, we’ll have a rapid transit system we can all be proud of for generations.

All the best to you and yours this holiday season from all of us at vivaNext. Enjoy the winter weather, good food, and the company of family and friends.
