construction activities on Davis Drive for August

August will see significant strides in the development of the centre lane rapidway. Read on for details of the paving activities happening between Yonge Street and Longford Drive, at Main Street, and changes to signalized intersections.

overnight work

To help ease the flow of traffic along Davis Drive, left-turn traffic sensors will be installed at the intersections of Yonge Street, George Street and Barbara Road. The sensors will be used to prioritize the advanced green arrow for motorists to make left or u-turns through the intersections.

Work dates: August 17 – August 21*
Work hours: overnights from 7pm – 6am*
Work area: Davis at the intersections of Yonge, George and Barbara

What you need to know:

  • Crews will be working overnight to reduce the impact on daytime traffic.
  • Left-turn lane closures will be required to install the sensors.
  • There is noise, dust, and intermittent vibrations associated with this work.

rapidway paving continues

Crews are making progress as they build the centre bus lanes along Davis. Rapidway paving will continue next week between Yonge and Longford and at Main.

Work dates: August 2015 from 6am-9pm [some weekend work may be required].
Work area: Davis rapidway, from west of Yonge to Longford and at Main Street

What you need to know:

  • Intersections at George, Barbara, Longford and Main Street will be closed intermittently to north and southbound traffic as crews pave through each intersection one at a time.
  • During the intermittent intersection closures:
    • Motorists will be unable to make left turns and will need to proceed to the next intersection or temporary cut-through lane and make a u-turn to get to their destination.
    • North and southbound motorists on George, Barbara, Longford/Parkside and Main will have to make a right turn on Davis, proceed to the next intersection or cut-through lane, make a u-turn, and then continue on to their destination.
    • U-turns are not permitted at Lorne Avenue or Tannery Mall while heading eastbound. To help you reach your destination a temporary cut-through lane has been installed on Davis at Superior Street.
  • Paid duty police officers will follow the paving crews to manage traffic at impacted intersections.
  • To prepare, crews may need to set up and drop off materials and machinery outside of regular work hours [i.e. overnight]. Please expect construction-related noise.
  • Pedestrians will not be able to use north/south crosswalks at closed intersections. Security Guards and police officers will direct pedestrians to the next intersection to cross to the opposite side of Davis.

road closure at Patterson Street: Aug 17-20

During road closures, detour signs will be in place to guide drivers around the closure. Please watch for these signs as they will provide the most up-to-date information. Click here to check the status of ongoing and upcoming road closures, as dates may change and closures could be extended.
