rapidway paving Aug. 4-8: Yonge to Longford, Main and Roxborough to Alexander

July 31, 2015

The week of August 4 will be a busy one on Davis Drive as we make significant strides in the development of the centre lane rapidway. Read on for details of three large paving activities happening between Yonge to Longford, at Main and Roxborough to Alexander the week of August 4.

1. rapidway paving Yonge to Parkside / Longford

The first section of paving will begin west of Yonge Street and progress east to Parkside / Longford Drive.
Work dates: August 4–8* from as early as 6am-9pm [some weekend work may be required].
Work area: Davis rapidway, from west of Yonge to Parkside / Longford.

What you need to know:

  • Intersections at George Street, Barbara Road and Parkside / Longford Drive will be closed intermittently to north and southbound traffic as crews pave through each intersection one at a time.
  • During the intermittent intersection closures:
    • Motorists will be unable to make left turns and will need to proceed to the next intersection and make a u-turn to get to their destination.
    • North and southbound motorists on George, Barbara and Parkside / Longford will have to make a right turn on Davis, proceed to the next intersection, make a u-turn, and then continue on to their destination.
  • Paid duty police officers will follow the paving crews to manage traffic at impacted intersections.
  • To prepare, crews may need to set up and drop off materials and machinery outside of regular work hours [i.e. overnight]. Please expect construction-related noise.
  • Pedestrians will not be able to use north/south crosswalks at closed intersections. Security Guards and police officers will direct pedestrians to the next intersection to cross to the opposite side of Davis.

  • The intersection of Davis and Main will be closed to northbound and southbound traffic while crews pave.
  • During the intermittent intersection closures:
    • Motorists will be unable to make left turns from Main onto Davis, or from Davis onto Main.
    • Temporary access lanes at Superior and Vincent streets will be open for motorists to make u-turns in order to get around the closure and get to their destination.
  • The north/south crosswalks at Main and Davis will be closed during paving. Pedestrians will need to access the Tannery intersection to cross to the opposite side of Davis.

3. paving [Roxborough to Alexander] and road closure at Alexander

Crews will pave the south side of Davis from Roxborough Road to just east of Alexander Road. While crews pave Alexander, the road will be closed.

Work area: South side of Davis from Roxborough to just east of Alexander.

What you need to know:

  • Intermittent closures to driveways on the south side of Davis between Roxborough to Alexander will be required to pave the road. Driveways will be reopened as soon as the asphalt cools.
  • The south sidewalk on Davis will be closed from the Newmarket Gospel Hall [736 Davis] to the Home Hardware [808 Davis]. Pedestrians will need to cross to the open north sidewalks at Roxbrough Road or Carlson Drive.
  • To prepare, crews may need to set up and drop off materials and machinery outside of regular work hours. Please expect construction-related noise. Pedestrians will need to access the Tannery intersection to cross to the opposite side of Davis.
