main & davis ongoing construction activities & night work

August 07, 2014

Beginning tonight and continuing for a month, crews will be completing several work activities at the intersection of Davis Drive and Main Street. Main Street is one of the future vivastation locations. Before construction of the vivastations can begin, crews first need to install sanitary sewers. They will then widen the south side of the Main and Davis intersection in two stages, install new curbs and pave the base-layer of the intersection. Please expect major traffic delays in the area and plan your travel times accordingly. Crews are scheduled to perform road widening and associated works on the north side of Main and Davis in 2015.

Work dates: Starting tonight, August 6 for approximately 1 month*
Overnight work: Tonight [Wednesday, August 6] from 7pm to 6am. Please expect noise.
Work hours: Monday – Friday, 5am to 7pm. At times weekend and night work may be required*.

Traffic impacts:

  • Main Street [south of Davis] will be reduced to one lane for northbound traffic. No dedicated left-turn lane will be available.

What you need to know:

  • Crews will be alternating work between the east and west side of Main Street throughout the month. See maps above for the stages of activites. The traffic impacts mentioned above will remain for the duration of the work [about one month].
  • Access to businesses will be maintained. There will be intermittent driveway closures to Wimpy’s, Mac’s Convenience, Big Daddy’s and Catch the Fire Revival Church. One entrance to these businesses will remain open at all times.
  • As crews alternate work between the east and west side of the intersection, sidewalks will be closed. Pedestrians please follow directional signs on Main Street that will guide you on your way.
  • The eastbound YRT bus stop currently on the southwest corner of Main and Davis is moving to the east side of the intersection.
  • The bus stop on Main Street between Davis and Simcoe will be relocated closer to Simcoe Street.

We understand that construction can be disruptive and we thank you in advance for your patience. We continue to work together to renew Newmarket by improving our roads, utilities and transit services so that Newmarket continues to be one the best places to live in Canada.
