construction of the first vivastation set to start on davis

June 27, 2014

Construction of the east and westbound vivastation platforms at Parkside/Longford and Davis Drive will start in early July. This will be an important moment in starting to see the transformation of Davis become a reality! Below are more details on the construction of the first vivastation on Davis Drive.

how to build a vivastation

There are a number of steps involved in building a vivastation. Each platform requires about 12 weeks of work including: excavating for the platforms, installing electrical cables and performing concrete work. Once the platforms are constructed, the steel structure and canopies are installed. For Longford Station, steel and glass should arrive later this fall.

what you need to know during vivastation construction [see map]

  • In order to construct the platforms, crews will be working in the middle of the road, where the future rapidway will be. Traffic lanes on Davis will be shifted to the north on the east side of the Parkside/Longford and Davis intersection and to the south on the west side of the intersection.
  • Davis will continue to be reduced to one lane in each direction. Please be mindful of traffic shifts and signs that will help guide you along your way.
  • Access to businesses on Davis will be maintained during this work.
  • The north Davis Drive sidewalk will be closed west of Longford, but pedestrians will access the corner plaza via a temporary walkway. The westbound YRT bus stop on the northwest corner of Longford and Davis will be relocated to the northeast corner. Please continue to follow the pedestrian and bus stop signs posted on the north and south sides of Davis to help guide you to your destination.
  • Please expect construction-related noise during this work.

Constructing a vivastation is a lot of work and has many components. We’ve written a blog that includes a short primer on how it’s done. It’s taken years of design, planning and preparation to get to the point of station construction and we’re excited to share it with you.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
