Construction resumes on the north side of the Keith Bridge

June 27, 2013

Earlier this year, construction work to widen the north side of the Keith Bridge was paused due to the fish spawning season [April 1 - July 1]. As fish spawning season will be over July 1, crews will resume work on the north side of the bridge starting the week of July 2.

Crews will be using a vibrating hammer and crane to install a cofferdam [which will divert water around the base of the new segment of bridge]. This will allow crews to begin construction of the foundation for the new north side of the bridge.

Work Dates: The week of July 2 for approximately 3 months*

Work hours: 6am-7pm

Note: For the next three months, crews will be performing daily vibration work, Monday to Friday from 8am-6pm. At times, weekend work may be required.

What can I expect to see and hear?
  • Due to the nature of this work, there will be noise and vibration around the work area. Noise and vibration monitoring will be conducted to ensure levels are kept within industry standards.
Will there be other impacts to the area?
  • The work area and traffic lane shift currently surrounding the Tannery will not change.
  • There may be short-term disruptions to traffic when equipment is being delivered. In these cases, traffic control personnel will direct drivers and pedestrians.
  • The sidewalk will remain closed on the north side of Davis Drive, between the Tannery and Bayview Parkway. Directional signs will continue to guide pedestrians to the south sidewalk.
  • Tom Taylor Trail: When crossing Davis Drive, trail users should follow detour signs and use the west crosswalk to cross the street before picking up the trail again (see map).
