Lane reduction prepares Davis Drive for lots of construction activity

March 14, 2013

As we prepare for a very busy year of construction, crews have been installing temporary traffic signals along Davis Drive from Yonge Street to Lorne Avenue. Multiple lane shifts and closures will be required to relocate and/or replace hydro, gas, storm drain, water main, sewer line, phone and cable.

When will traffic lanes be reduced on Davis Drive?

At the start of April and lasting for the duration of the work*

What will Davis Drive look like?

A lane will be closed in both directions, and the open lanes will shift from segment to segment (similar to an ‘S’ pattern) from just west of Yonge Street to Main Street. Turning lanes at signalized intersections will remain and, where possible, an emergency services/left-turn lane will be provided. Available lanes will be continuously shifting for the duration of vivaNext work. One sidewalk will be maintained on the north or south side of Davis Drive at all times.

Impacts during construction
  • Where bus stops and sidewalks are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop or sidewalk.
  • All businesses will remain open during this work and access to driveways will be maintained. Please drive with care and give yourself extra time to get to your destination safely.

Please remember to reduce your speed through construction zones and be mindful of traffic shifts and signs that will help guide you along your way. And if you’re walking, please stay aware of your surroundings by avoiding distractions like phones, ipods and mp3 players.

We thank you so much for your patience and understanding.
