Davis Drive: Keith Bridge shifting toward completion

October 25, 2012

As part of the Davis Drive rapidway project, a new south side of the Keith Bridge was built and now we’re focusing on rebuilding the north side to complete the bridge. Traffic lanes on Davis Drive, from just west of Bayview Parkway to just east of the railway tracks, will shift to the new south side of the bridge and be reduced to three lanes – two eastbound and one westbound [see map].

Dates: Preparation work is from October 25 to November 19, and the lane shift will last for approximately a year*

Description of work

To prepare the new section of the Keith Bridge for vehicle traffic, crews will be:

  • Relocating water service and utilities in front of the Seniors’ Meeting Place and the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce.
  • Removing portions of the south sidewalk, curb and boulevard.
  • Installing temporary traffic signals.
  • Paving the new south sidewalk, section of the road and part of the bridge.

Once preparations are complete, traffic will be shifted to the south bridge section and a temporary sidewalk will be opened on the south side. The north side of the bridge will be demolished and rebuilt to be wider.

What you need to know

  • Curb lane closures will be required around work areas.
  • The front parking lot at the Seniors’ Meeting Place will now be closed, with parking available at the rear.
  • The Seniors’ Meeting Place, Newmarket Chamber of Commerce driveway will be narrowed at times during the next month.
  • At times, either the north or south sidewalk may be closed.
  • Bus stops in front of the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce and the Tannery have been relocated west of the railway tracks for approximately one year.
