July 13, 2012
As utility work on Davis Drive continues, Enbridge will be boring under the Holland River to install a new segment of gas main.
- Dates: Starting Monday, July 16 for approximately five weeks*
- Hours of work: 7am – 4pm
Work description
- Crews will be setting up three work areas: in front of the Chamber of Commerce/Seniors’ Meeting Place and in front of the 514 Davis Drive parking lot. (see diagram)
- The new gas main will be installed using directional drilling, a technique used to install underground pipes, conduits and cables. A drill is used to create an underground tunnel and later to pull the pipe through underground, which minimizes the disruption.
- Occasionally, there will be noise, dust and vibration disturbances with this work.
- Note: There will be no disruption to gas services.
Traffic and parking impacts
- Eastbound curb lane closures near work areas will be required intermittently.
- No parking in work areas. The Seniors’ Meeting Place members can park in the rear parking area behind the building.
- At times, the driveway to the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce/Seniors’ Meeting Place may be narrowed due to work in the immediate area.
Pedestrian and bus stop impacts
- The Tom Taylor Trail detour path may be shifted slightly to accommodate the work – pedestrians and cyclists should follow on site signage.
- Bus stops and sidewalks may also be affected, please follow signs for direction.
- As required, a paid duty officer will be on site to direct traffic and pedestrians.
