Geotechnical testing on Davis Drive

October 3, 2011

To complete the design plans and prepare for widening Davis Drive, soil samples (geotechnical tests) are required along Davis Drive from Yonge Street to Huron Heights Drive.

When will this work be done?

  • Crews will work at various locations from October 3 to November 15, 2011.

What are the hours of work?

The hours of work will vary depending on location:

  • Work in boulevard areas will be from 7am-5pm.
  • Work on the roadway will be from 9:30am-3:30pm.

Where will this work take place?

  • Testing will be in approximately 30 locations along Davis Drive, on the road, boulevards and parking areas between Yonge Street and Huron Heights Drive.

What will this work include?

  • In each area, a drill rig will extract soil from holes four inches in diameter and thirty-three feet in depth.
  • All work will take place on land acquired by York Region. Where work is taking place in a parking lot the work area will be clearly marked and sectioned off with construction pylons in advance of the work.

Will there be any affect on traffic or pedestrians?

  • Lane closures will be required at some locations.
  • Business entrances will remain open.
  • Bus stops and sidewalks will remain open as much as possible, and if pedestrian detours are needed, fencing and directional signs will be installed.

How will I find out about lane closures?

  • Our weekly lane closure notification email will include the details about lane closure locations and durations.
