Construction resumes at 16 – 18 Main Street

September 12, 2011

Construction will resume at the southwest corner of Davis Drive and Main Street (Wimpy’s plaza). To prepare for widening Davis Drive for dedicated rapidway lanes, a small retaining wall is being built. Work will start the week of September 12, and is scheduled to be completed by late October.

What will this work include?

  • Fencing the construction area (see diagram), excavating the earth and building a retaining wall approximately 30 metres in length and ranging from 0.5 to 0.6 metres in finished height.

All businesses and plaza entrances will remain open during construction.

Will parking or traffic lanes be affected?

  • During construction, vehicles will be able to enter the plaza from Davis Drive or from Main Street, but will not be able to drive or park across the front section of parking lot that faces Davis Drive.
  • Temporary closures of the eastbound curb lane of Davis Drive will be required during construction.

Will sidewalks or transit be affected?

  • The sidewalk on the south side of Davis Drive will be open during construction. However, short-term closures may be required during some stages of work.
  • Main Street sidewalks will remain open.
  • YRT and Go Transit will temporarily relocate YRT stop #2607. See on-site signs for details.
