Retaining wall construction begins at 130 Davis Drive

July 15, 2011

Retaining wall construction is starting at 130 Davis Drive. Crews will start work the week of July 18, and are scheduled to be complete by the end of November 2011.

Description of work:

The two retaining walls being built at the front of 130 Davis Drive are a total of 300m in length and range in height from 1.5m to 3.7m. The walls will be made from poured concrete and will have a textured appearance.

The first phase of work includes:

  • surveying and installing construction fencing
  • removing the existing handrail, landscaping and asphalt
  • excavation to prepare for building the wall

Will access to businesses be maintained?

  • All plaza entrances will remain open, and signs will manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
  • Traffic circulation and parking will not be available in the work area (see diagram).
  • Plaza parking outside the work area will continue to be available, and pedestrians will be able to access businesses near the work area.

Will sidewalks and Davis Drive traffic be affected?

  • There will be temporary lane closures and sidewalk detours on Davis Drive eastbound:
    - Right turn lane: closed 7am – 7pm as required
    - Curb lane: closed 9:30am – 3:30pm, occasionally until 7pm
    - Sidewalk: detoured to north side of Davis Drive during lane closures
  • There will be brief traffic delays from 7:30am – 9:30am as flag personnel direct construction equipment deliveries.
