Retaining Wall Construction – 350 Davis Drive

June 10, 2011

As part of the Davis Drive rapidway project, a number of retaining walls are being built along the south side of Davis Drive, where properties slope up or down from the roadway.

When will this start?

Crews will be on site from June 10 to late July.*

What will this work look like?

Work will include clearing landscaping, removing existing asphalt and/or curb, excavating and building the retaining wall.

Note: Access to the plaza from Davis Drive and Niagara Street will be maintained and signs to manage vehicles and pedestrians will be posted.

Why are you only working on one side of the plaza?

This year we are only working on the west side of the plaza, and work on the east side of the plaza will follow at a later date. (see diagram below)

What will the wall be made of?

The wall is being built using stone blocks. The height of the wall at its maximum is approximately 1 m (3.6 ft), and walls measuring 0.6 m (2 ft) or more in height will be topped with hand railings.

Will sidewalks in the work area be impacted?

For most of the construction the sidewalk will remain open. However, there may be short-term sidewalk closures, and in these cases, flag personnel will be on site to guide pedestrians around the construction activity.

Will traffic be affected on Davis Drive?

From time to time there may be temporary lane closures to facilitate the work. Any lane closures will follow permit guidelines and roadways will be clearly signed.
