Geotechnical investigations continue on Davis Drive [Revised]

July 28, 2010

Due to the utility locates taking longer than expected, we have revised the dates for scheduled work. Please see below for updated schedule. These dates may change due to unforeseen circumstances.

When will this work be done?

Working from the west end to the east end, soil samples will be taken from 12 locations along Davis Drive between July 26 to August 20, 2010.

We will be in contact with the owners and tenants at each location to provide additional details.

What is a geotechnical investigation?

Soil is collected and tested to determine its properties. As part of the early construction work for the Davis Drive rapidway, it is important to know what soils are located along the corridor in order to design the foundation for the roadway and any retaining walls that will need to be set back.

At each address, in a predetermined location, a drill rig will bore a hole an average of five metres deep and four inches in diameter. Samples collected from the boreholes will be tested to determine their physical properties.

Where will this work be done?

The work is being done along Davis Drive on the land acquired by York Region. This means that the soil samples will be taken from the boulevard area or in parking spaces adjacent to Davis Drive.

Who is doing this work?

Golder Associates is conducting the investigations along Davis Drive on behalf of York Region Rapid Transit.
