Geotechnical investigation to take place on Davis Drive

November 20, 2009

In order to design the foundation for the widening of the Keith Bridge, which is an integral part of the construction of the Davis Drive rapidway, it is important to determine the soil composition in the immediate vicinity.

To accomplish this, soil samples will be extracted at two separate locations using a drilling rig that will bore holes measuring four inches in diameter and sixty feet deep. These samples will then be tested to determine their physical properties.

Who will conduct the drilling, when and where?

On behalf of York Region Rapid Transit Corporation, Coffey Geotechnics Inc. will conduct the drilling, tentatively scheduled for November 23 and 24 , weather permitting. The two bore hole locations are as follows:

1.   On Davis Drive: Eastbound lane in front of 496 Davis Drive.
A temporary lane closure will be required to conduct drilling.

2.   On the Tom Taylor Trail: South of the Keith Bridge at 474 Davis Drive.
Access to the trail is required through the Seniors Meeting Place parking lot.
The Tom Taylor Trail will be closed temporarily between the work position and
the north side of the Keith Bridge.

When is construction starting on Davis Drive?

Further geotechnical investigations and other early construction activities will occur as required. Affected property owners and adjacent neighbours will be given advance notice of any such work. A construction schedule will be available in early 2010.
