engaging the community – and listening to you

engaging the community – and listening to you

One of the best things about springtime is how much more we all get outside – and that especially includes the many events in the communities in York Region. From festivals to farmers markets, home shows and other events, it’s important that we’re out and about, talking and listening to you.

In April, many of you visited us at our booth at the Aurora Home Show, where we were able to chat with several hundred people. People were very interested in making sure the Heritage Area along Yonge Street is properly protected – we were able to reassure you of the plans for Viva to continue to drive in mixed traffic through the Heritage blocks, rather than widening the road as in other areas. We also attended the Newmarket Home Show in March to make ourselves available to the community to answer questions and talk about the Rapidway and the construction along Davis Drive. We had some good conversations – this community remains very engaged in the plans and are looking forward to the end of construction!

In May, we were at the Richmond Hill Home Show talking about the Highway 7 East and Yonge Street rapidways, and we shared in the fun at York Region’s Family Fun Day in East Gwillimbury.

Throughout the summer, you’ll continue to see us at festivals and events. And throughout the year, we’ll be talking to business owners, property owners and local communities to ensure everyone is aware of ongoing and upcoming construction activities, and to help you plan ways of dealing with temporary road diversions and lane closures. Because we’re building where you live, shop, work and play, you’ll be seeing Community Liaisons and other vivaNext people at different events and festivals to help keep everyone informed.

Come visit us at the spring home shows!

Despite the last futile attempts of winter to hang on, spring has sprung — buds are popping up on the trees and birds are chirping in celebration — change is everywhere. With spring, thoughts often turn towards home projects or renovations. If you’re dreaming of a fresh look to any part of your home then there’s no better place for you to go than one of your local home shows where anything and everything you’ll need is in one place.

The warmer weather also brings with it a busier construction schedule on the Regions roads. If you’re at the Newmarket Home and Lifestyle Show this weekend, the Aurora Home Show next weekend or the Richmond Hill Home & Garden Show the first weekend in May, stop by and visit. We’ll tell you what’s new on our projects in Markham, Newmarket, Vaughan and Richmond Hill. Like renovating your home, the construction projects vivaNext has underway will bring long-term benefits. Our construction projects are bringing change to York Region in the form of rapidways — dedicated lanes for viva vehicles. Rapidways will make it faster and easier to travel in York Region, and will set the stage for great destinations to live, work, shop and play.

The shows are each host to over 150 vendors. Meet with renovation or home decor expert, take part in a workshop or two or enjoy some lively entertainment.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Help us wish Canada a happy birthday!

Happy Birthday Canada!

VivaNext teams will be out in the community tomorrow to proudly celebrate Canada Day at two different locations.

One of our teams will be chatting up festival goers at Newmarket’s at Fairy Lake for the Kanata Day festivities.  You can start the day with a pancake breakfast from 8am until noon at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church near the foot of Main Street in Newmarket. Then be sure to walk to Fairy Lake (Wesley Brooks Conservation Area), where there will also be all sorts of family fun including inflatable bouncers, an extreme bike demonstration, and live entertainment. At George Richardson Park on Bayview Parkway North, fireworks will begin at dusk.

Our second vivaNext team will celebrate the patriotism of the day at Richmond Hill’s Canada Day Celebrations. Be sure to drop by our booth in the Home Show area, 11am-5pm, and have fun with all the live performances, children’s games & inflatables, airbrush tattooing, teen zone, skating demonstrations, beer garden, and fireworks at dusk. It’s all happening at the Richmond Green Park and Sports Complex at 1300 Elgin Mills Road East.

There can’t be a better way to spend Canada Day than with the patriotic people of York Region. See you there!

vivaNext segway team drives awareness at Vaughan Mills

Our vivaNext segway team was so successful at driving awareness for our projects at Markville Mall and the Markham Home Show earlier this month, we decided to put them to work once again at Vaughan Mills this past weekend.

Take a peek at our short video and see for yourself what a hit they were with passing motorists and pedestrians alike.

BTW, this is the last day of our contest. If you haven’t entered yet, there’s still time to do so by texting* the word “vivaNext” to the number 101010. Good luck!

Thanks for making our Canada Day so great!

What a day we had on July 1st thanks to you! Our vivaNext teams attended both the Kanata Day festivities at Fairy Lake in Newmarket, and the Canada Day Home Show in Richmond Hill. Our teams spent the entire day talking to hundreds of enthusiastic residents – perhaps even you – who expressed great excitement about vivaNext projects and the urban transformation they will bring to York Region. Everybody had such great questions for us, which we were only too happy to answer.

We also had a lot of fun handing out thousands of informative pamphlets and bookmarks, handy magnetic whiteboards, and of course, delicious treats. After all, what’s a birthday party without treats. Our vivaNext mime was at Fairy Lake in Newmarket as well to entertain the kids while moms and dads spoke to our vivaNext team members.

In case you missed us on Canada Day, here are a few photos we thought you’d enjoy seeing!
