It’s a vivaSummer!

vivaSummer

We all have our favourite places, and summer is the perfect time to explore them with friends and family while enjoying fantastic weather. Once vivaNext projects are complete we’ll have more green space, and plenty of new ‘favourite places’ for you to choose from.

YRT\Viva offers a great Trip Planner at http://tripplanner.yrt.ca that can help you plan your routes from point A to B, wherever you may be heading this summer. Comfortable, air-conditioned viva vehicles can be a great alternative to driving in summer heat, and with 119 vivastations, they’re sure to take you where you need to go.

York Region has lots of green spaces and local parks where you can spend summer outdoors experiencing nature and warm weather. Here are a few natural and green places not to be missed in Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Aurora and Vaughan:

In Markham, spend a day by the water at Toogood Pond. With picnic sites and paths to stroll, this is an ideal site to spend a summer weekend afternoon. If you’re looking to bike or walk a scenic route, head up to Newmarket and take the Tom Taylor Trail. The Richmond Green Sports Centre and Park in Richmond Hill offers the best of both worlds – outdoor soccer fields to stay active and picnic areas to sit and relax. In Aurora, be sure to visit Lambert Willson Park, which has access to beach volleyball, the Aurora Family Leisure Complex and multiple nature trails. Finally, if you’re in Vaughan, the Boyd Conservation Area along the Humber River Valley offers wonderful activities and and is a popular GTA picnic destination.

No matter where your ‘favourite place’ may be, we hope you’ll take transit to get there, and we hope you have a happy summer.  Be sure to drink lots of water and stay sun-safe on those extra hot days. And have fun!

Help us wish Canada a happy birthday!

Happy Birthday Canada!

VivaNext teams will be out in the community tomorrow to proudly celebrate Canada Day at two different locations.

One of our teams will be chatting up festival goers at Newmarket’s at Fairy Lake for the Kanata Day festivities.  You can start the day with a pancake breakfast from 8am until noon at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church near the foot of Main Street in Newmarket. Then be sure to walk to Fairy Lake (Wesley Brooks Conservation Area), where there will also be all sorts of family fun including inflatable bouncers, an extreme bike demonstration, and live entertainment. At George Richardson Park on Bayview Parkway North, fireworks will begin at dusk.

Our second vivaNext team will celebrate the patriotism of the day at Richmond Hill’s Canada Day Celebrations. Be sure to drop by our booth in the Home Show area, 11am-5pm, and have fun with all the live performances, children’s games & inflatables, airbrush tattooing, teen zone, skating demonstrations, beer garden, and fireworks at dusk. It’s all happening at the Richmond Green Park and Sports Complex at 1300 Elgin Mills Road East.

There can’t be a better way to spend Canada Day than with the patriotic people of York Region. See you there!

vivaNext resolutions for 2011

vivaNext resolutions for 2011The day the New Year begins has moved to different dates in different cultures throughout history, but celebrating the New Year is one of the oldest holiday celebrations. Traditions have varied (and still do today), ranging from forgiving enemies to exchanging gifts, to wishing Happy New Year and making resolutions. Many of us have made resolutions over the years – committing to renew last year’s resolutions, adding a few new ones, and to keep them as long as we can.

Naturally, vivaNext staff would tell you on any day of the year that we keep our resolutions:

  • To continue our progress on rapidways in Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Markham and Vaughan, and on the Spadina Subway extension;
  • To continue setting the stage for beautiful urban spaces where people can choose to live, work and play in close proximity and use rapid transit to get around; and
  • To stay in constant communication with the residents and businesses in our communities.

Happy New Year from vivaNext!

Catch some holiday cheer from vivaNext!

Click Here to play our game and catch some holiday cheer!
Slide the bear to catch some snowflakes

York Region has already seen quite a bit of falling snow this season. It brings back fond memories of catching snowflakes, but real snowflakes always melted. So here’s a game to make catching snowflakes a little more rewarding.

We had fun making this game and playing it too – my high score was 43. We hope you have fun playing it and sharing it with your friends along with some holiday cheer.

Happy holidays from vivaNext!

Canada Day

Canada Day provides an opportunity to get together with friends, family and neighbours, and celebrate the culture, achievements and communities of our great nation. That’s why we hope to see you at the Town of Richmond Hill Canada Day Home Show or at Newmarket’s Kanata Summer Festival.  York Region has a lot of be proud of, and a lot to look forward to in the future (including a rapid transit system that will help manage growth and improve transit travel times!).

Support local community groups and businesses at the Canada Day Home Show, and bring the entire family along for a pancake breakfast, live entertainment and a bike demonstration at the Kanata Summer Festival. Visit the vivaNext booths at both events to ask your questions, share your comments, and get up-to-date with the latest developments in the vivaNext plan.

Happy holiday fun to you and yours from vivaNext!

Pick colourful candies out of the jar to decorate your very own gingerbread house.
Pick colourful candies out of the jar to decorate your very own gingerbread house.

There are all kinds of great ways to celebrate the holiday season. Spending time with family and friends…making snow angels…eating way too much food…drinking hot cocoa…hitting the slopes…and one of our favourites here at vivaNext…decorating gingerbread houses.

That’s why, this holiday season, we’ve created a fun little gingerbread house for you to decorate and share online. It includes a jar full of colourful candy, all sorts of hidden treats, some merry holiday music, an animated snowman, and of course, a warm reminder that there’s no place like home sweet home for the holidays. And with vivaNext, no faster or easier way to get there.

We hope you have as much fun decorating it, as we had creating it. No doubt your finished gingerbread house will look good enough to eat.

Happy holidays from vivaNext!
