Retaining Wall Construction – 20 & 54 Davis Drive

Construction of a retaining wall has started at 20 and 54 Davis Drive, the Goodwill plaza just east of Yonge Street.

When will this start?

Crews are on site and have started excavating. Work is scheduled from May 30 to early September, 2011.*

What will this work look like?

Work will include removing existing asphalt and/or curb, excavating earth and building the retaining walls. Once the walls are built, a handrail will be installed and the surrounding area will be restored.

Note: Access to the plaza from Davis Drive will be maintained.

What will the wall be made of?

The wall is being built using stone blocks. The height of the wall at its maximum is approximately 1.1 m (3.6 ft), and walls measuring 0.6 m (2 ft) or more in height will have a handrail installed.

Will sidewalks in the work area be impacted?

The sidewalk will be detoured at times, and in these cases flag personnel will guide pedestrians. If the sidewalk needs to be closed, pedestrians will be directed to the sidewalk on the north side of Davis Drive.

Will there be traffic impacts on Davis Drive?

From time to time there may be temporary lane closures to facilitate the work. Any lane closures will follow permit guidelines and roadways will be clearly signed.

be ready

Get ready, because rapid transit is about to arrive on Davis Drive. We couldn’t be more excited to offer the best transit experience in the region to the people who have supported rapidway development from the beginning of the project.

Until we launch, we’re taking advantage of every sunny day in Newmarket to advance the work on the corridor. With much of the construction complete, we’re now focused on testing and adding the final touches. You may have already seen buses in the rapidway for driver training.

We want to be sure the Davis Drive Viva experience is fast and reliable, so to make sure we are ready, every detail of the rapidway is inspected through a visual walk-down before launch. A list of everything that needs to be addressed is created and prioritized. These items will be scheduled to be fixed either prior to the system opening or post opening. So don’t be surprised if you see us planting a shrub or two in the new year.

VivaNext is proud to provide a reliable, efficient rapid transit system and beautiful streetscape for everyone in Newmarket. With every new section of rapidway delivered, we are building a better system that we can all be proud of.
