Watermain installation along Highway 7 East

What type of work is being done?

This summer we will be installing a new watermain in Richmond Hill. You may notice some work taking place along Highway 7 East, from Doncrest Road to west of Pond Drive. The construction will run from early June to mid-August and will take place within our existing work zone

What does the work entail?

  • We will need to dig a trench to remove existing pipes
  • Excavated materials will be loaded into trucks and moved offsite
  • New pipes will be installed, and the trench will be filled
  • The existing road will be restored

What impact will there be?

  • There will be occasional lane closures from 9:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
  • Sidewalks on the north side from Doncrest to Pond will be closed
  • All driveways will be accessible
  • Water will be shut off for one night (up to 4 hours) during the changeover to the new watermain in August (we’ll let you know exact details well in advance)

Will the construction affect existing bus routes?

  • Transit stops will remain open, however, there may be some necessary detours
  • You will be notified in advance of route and bus stop relocations if they are required

How will the work zone be separated from traffic?

  • There will be construction and road signs to indicate the work area
  • Watch for barricades and equipment located at the centre median

Thank you for your patience during this time. This construction is important and will help to improve conditions in our neighbourhood.

When it comes to the future of transit in York Region – it’s coming to Markham this winter with the launch of the third section of the Highway 7 rapidway on South Town Centre Boulevard, Cedarland Road and Warden Avenue.

A lot of activity is taking place as we all prepare for Viva beginning to run in this new section of rapidway. This includes preparing to open the new Cedarland Station, testing of Viva and emergency service vehicles in the rapidway lanes and training of YRT/Viva staff – to name a few.

All this goes a long way to improving transit in York Region and providing a faster and more convenient commute. And all of you are a big part of that. Thank you!
