Utility relocation work continues

What type of work is being done?

Why is it being done?

To accommodate the widening of Highway 7 for the vivaNext rapidways.

  • Between Allstate Parkway and Woodbine Avenue starting March 21, 2011
  • Between Woodbine Avenue and South Town Centre Boulevard starting April 2011

How long will the work take?

Estimated completion is June 2011.

What does the work entail?

The work will be done in the following stages:

  • New poles will be delivered and distributed along the corridor
  • Holes will be dug for the new hydro poles
  • New poles will be placed and stabilized in the holes
  • Existing power lines will be transferred to the new poles
  • Existing poles will be removed and holes backfilled

What impact will there be?

  • Periodic lane closures may be required during pole delivery and installation.
  • There should be no unscheduled disruption of electrical service. PowerStream will advise clients of any planned disruption well in advance.

In Markham, the future of transit has arrived with the opening of the last piece of the Highway 7 East rapidway along South Town Centre Boulevard, Cedarland Drive and Warden Avenue.

On January 4, 2015, the final section of the Highway 7 East rapidway opened for service, allowing YRT/Viva customers to experience truly rapid transit from Bayview Avenue in Richmond Hill to the Markham Centre development area. On the section of rapidway already in service on Highway 7 since 2013, riders are already seeing up to 35% travel time savings. All this goes a long way to improving transit in York Region and providing a faster and more convenient commute. And all of you are a big part of that. Thank you!
