Activity on the Yonge North Subway Extension [YNSE] is in full swing and there's a myriad of events happening with many opportunities to get involved and to learn what's new on this critical project.

In response to stakeholder feedback, on December 8, Metrolinx announced a refined alignment for the YNSE — a link to the statement from Metrolinx President and CEO, Phil Verster, is available here.

future transit oriented communities proposals are taking shape

Infrastructure Ontario recently held two virtual open houses for the Transit Oriented Communities program along the YNSE corridor — the future Bridge and High Tech stations.

Finch Station early works will begin in 2022

On December 14, Metrolinx announced the release of a 'Request for Qualifications,' to complete early works at the TTC's Finch Subway Station, before major construction on the YNSE can begin.

Construction on the early works at Finch is expected to start in late 2022.

As York Region Council's number one transportation priority, the YNSE project will create new jobs, build a stronger economy, shape communities and support a sustainable future by:

  • Creating 57,000 new jobs delivered through the YNSE construction providing new opportunities for apprentices and businesses
  • Saving over 13 tonnes of greenhouse gas [GHG] per workday by reducing 3,300 bus trips per day required to service this segment of Yonge Street in 2031
  • Unlocking planned development in the Richmond Hill/ Langstaff Growth Centre and along the Yonge Street corridor
