overnight work >> asphalt repairs on Highway 7 bridge

July 08, 2021

The Highway 7 bridge over Highway 400 was widened to accommodate rapidway lanes and the centre-median multi-use path. As part of the remaining deficiency and warranty work, crews will be milling and then paving all traffic and rapidway lanes to even out the asphalt around the expansion joint located along the east end of the bridge. This work will take place in stages over the weekend. Please see below for further details.

work dates/hours*: Friday, July 9 at 8pm — Sunday, July 11 at 5pm, with crews working 24/7 to expedite the work

what you need to know:

  • On Friday, crews will mill and pave the westbound traffic lanes through the work area. During this time, traffic will be reduced to one lane and diverted into the rapidway.
  • Crews will then move to the eastbound lanes to mill and pave through the work zone. To accommodate this work, traffic will be reduced to one eastbound lane and directed into the rapidway. During this time, the on-ramp to Highway 400 north will be temporarily closed — expected closure to take place early Saturday morning.
  • In the next stage, crews will mill and pave the westbound rapidway lane first and then the eastbound rapidway lane. While completing their work along each of the rapidway lanes, traffic will be reduced to one lane and diverted to the curb lane.
  • In the final stage, crews mill and pave the westbound curb lane through the work area, and then move to the eastbound curb lane on Highway 7 to complete their work. In this stage, traffic will be reduced to one lane. While crews work in the eastbound lanes, the on-ramp to Highway 400 north will be temporarily closed — expected closure to take place early Sunday morning.
  • Line painting through the work areas will be completed early Sunday morning
  • Paid duty police officers and traffic control staff will be onsite to help direct traffic, as needed.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination and reduce your speed through construction zones and follow posted signs.
  • Due to the nature of this work, there will be dust and construction-related noise from equipment and trucks.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We are committed to providing advance notice whenever possible. Check twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.
