July 06, 2020

In follow-up to our recent update on what to expect in the coming weeks,on Highway 7, red asphalt repairs have been scheduled for this Wednesday at the following intersections: Bruce Street, Wigwoss Drive/Helen Street and Pine Valley Drive as part of the project's deficiency and warranty work. Please see below for further details.

work dates*: Wednesday, July 8th
work hours*: 4:30am-4:30pm

  • Red asphalt repairs will take place at the following intersections on Highway 7:
    • Bruce [eastbound]: approx. 4:30am-7am
    • Wigwoss [westbound]: approx. 7am-9:30am
    • Helen [eastbound]: approx. 9:30am-11am
    • Pine Valley: approx. 11am-4:30pm
    • Traffic will be shifted around the work areas to allow for east and westbound travel along Highway 7.
    • Temporary closures on cross streets at intersections will be in place to accommodate this work.
    • Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians around the temporary closures and, at times, traffic may be directed into the rapidway lanes.
    • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite to help direct traffic, as needed.
    • Wherever possible, sidewalks and bus stops will remain open. If a bus stop or sidewalk is temporarily closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop or sidewalk.
    • Access to driveways, may be temporarily closed as the paving operation progresses through these areas.
    • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
    • Due to the nature of this work, there will be dust and construction-related noise from equipment and trucks.

    safety border

    for your safety:

    be alert.

    • With construction site conditions changing daily, it's important for everyone to pay attention to their surroundings. Watch for signs and traffic barrels that indicate lane closures or shifts, as well as relocated sidewalks and bus stops.

    be safe.

    • Do not walk into construction zones or remove signs and barricades that are in place for everyone's safety. Even when no workers are present, it's a hazardous area. Cross at designated crosswalks, follow posted signs, and keep at a safe distance.

    slow down.

    • To protect construction workers, pedestrians and yourself, it's crucial to slow down, follow the posted speed limit, and pay close attention to construction signs and road markings.

    safety is a shared responsibility.

    • Do not ignore safety warnings or put others at risk by moving pylons, barricades or signage. Let's make sure at the end of every day, everyone gets home to their families.

to minimize disruption where possible, crews will:

  • Limit the reversing of vehicles with back-up safety beeper to help direct traffic, as needed.
  • Aim headlights away from buildings and homes.
  • Reduce the banging noise from dump truck tailgates.
  • Set up portable lights in a way that limits upcasting onto buildings.
  • Ensure equipment is well maintained and running well.
  • *Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We are committed to providing advance notice whenever possible. Check twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.
